What happens in a Tam Integration Circle?

When you walk in the door to the wellness center, there will be people chatting. They are friendly and will be happy to talk to you, too.  Don’t worry if you feel awkward, we’re all awkward.  If you would prefer to find a quiet place to sit and meditate to prepare, that’s fine too.  Cushions will be set up in the circle, and you can get yourself centered as you see fit.

There will be a basket or jar for the suggested donations.  Nobody will ever ask you for money directly, although the jar might be referenced in the opening or closing of the circle. No one is ever turned away, but if you can dig deep, that’s very much appreciated.

In the opening of the circle, we’ll go over some of the basics.  We’ll ask everyone to agree to confidentiality.  We’ll let you know that you are welcome to share or stay silent, and that you are welcome to invite reflections, or not.  We’ll caution against direct advice giving (“You Should”) and talk about how to offer reflections (“One time I had a similar experience, and what helped me was….”)

Then there will be an opening meditation and/or a theme for reflection offered.

The Group Sharing begins, you’re welcome to either share or just observe.  Some people are more comfortable sitting in the energy and not saying anything.  That’s fine, and we’re ready when you are.  It might not hurt to try to challenge yourself a a little. Some people also have a lot to share.  This is awesome, but please be aware of the rest of the group, and make sure that shyer people get a chance.  Some people need some space to feel safe to speak up.

Sometimes the sharing turns into a group discussion, and sometimes one of the facilitators might offer a tool or practice to an individual or the group.  We go with the flow. The Circle ends with a short closing meditation.  We clean up the cushions, and people chat some more.

Sometimes we go to Terrapin or somewhere nice for continued hang out.

Can you help me find ‘supplies’? Can you refer me to a Shaman?

No.  We’re sympathetic to issues of access, but that’s not what we’re doing here.  In order to keep the space safe and open for everyone we just focus on doing what we do.

I’m concerned about privacy. Do I have to preregister?

No.  You do not have to preregister. Our groups have sometimes been cozy, but we have never had to turn anyone away due to lack of space.
