Spoiler alert, it can’t be done. Love and awareness are beyond the beyond, and at the same time immediately accessible to all of us. Regardless of race, religion, or bank account.
I was a pretty rad conference this weekend, with some pretty rad people. One of the topics that coming up was the idea that love was somehow conditional. I talked to someone who left a religious cult. They told me that sometimes when people leave the cult they feel like divine love and connection is no longer available to them. It’s excruciating because they are often leaving their friends and family behind, and they feel shut out of the field of unitive totality, as if this one organization is literally the only way in. I suppose that’s the whole religious m/o though, isn’t it?
I also met a person who was afraid to leave their job, because they felt like they wouldn’t be loveable anymore if they didn’t earn a good salary. A shift has to be made for health and sanity, but this little fear is that love will leave even with a slight pay cut.
The moral of the story is of course, Love is Real, Not Fade Away. There is no one who can stand in between you and pure universal awareness. This is why I like our psychedelic practice. I am reminded in a big way. This truth is affirmed, and I can connect, purely, simply, like it’s the most natural thing in the world. And why my favorite part of this whole ‘integration thing’ is the practice of remaining in this simple, natural place. This is probably why two of my favorite books are The Gift and The Radiance Sutras. Both of these books, with their effulgent poetry, helps me get back to that place. It’s not a necessity, but it’s nice to have reminders around. Just like our friends, family, and community, their love points the way for us, just like ours points the way for them.
Maybe this song gets you there, maybe it doesn’t. I think it’s the best. River loves this version. He doesn’t even want another.
